Part of the happiness that photography gives me is going back and having a look at past work. Doing this is pleasurable on many levels and gives me reassurance. The pleasure part is that I get to recall all the circumstances around the frozen moment. Whatever party it was or why I was walking down that street on that day, etc.
The reassurance is that certain photos that I’m taking now share very similar characteristics to the ones I’ve taken 10,20,30 and even 40 years ago. This is important for me to see, as sometimes I worry that the work I’m doing presently is just a personal fad and I might change out of it. I’ve been running into a whole lot of old stuff that looks like it could have been shot yesterday (except the subjects are much, much older)
This photo was taken at Lake Dorothy about 4 years ago and has the rough quality of some of the stuff that I liked in the seventies.
